Guided Nature Hike Planned for Dec. 5, 2004

Winter is coming and Outdoor ESCAPES New Hampshire, LLC is ready to start helping outdoor enthusiasts enjoy adventures around the state. The first winter event is the upcoming nature hike in the Squam Mountains from 1 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5. Participants will explore wildlife in winter on this easy to moderate hike, or snowshoe tour if, by chance, there’s enough snow.

Your guide Lucie LaPlante Villeneuve Villeneuve is enthusiastic about sharing nature knowledge of the Granite State. “People often ask me, ‘Will the animals be out?’ and my answer is, ‘They live outside. They’re out all the time,’ and find that I have a lot of questions to answer, because animals and plants cope with winter in different ways: Some migrate, some hibernate, and others adapt to winter conditions to survive.”

The real question is, “Will we see any animals?” Lucie states that the hikers will trek softly into the habitat of many species, hoping to observe wildlife behaving naturally. There is evidence of wildlife everywhere, if one looks carefully, and new things to discover around every corner in the crisp, cold air of winter.
