Guided Private S.U.V. Interpretive Sightseeing Tours

If you like variety and prefer more leisurely activities, you’ve come to the right place, because we offer custom guided easy adventures around New Hampshire, too.

Come with us for a day trip in our sports utility vehicle (S.U.V.) and we'll share the best of New Hampshire with you. Your discovery tour on scenic byways and country roads is a great way to become acquainted with rural New Hampshire, one region at a time. Stops will be made to experience the best of each season throughout the year: Winter Snow, Maple Sugar, Mud and Ice, Spring Flowers, Summer Heat and Rain, Fall Foliage, Harvest and Hunting, and finally the Holidays. So leave the driving behind and have fun exploring local nature, history, culture, sightseeing, and souvenir shopping with your native guide. If there's an opportunity, some off-roading will increase your chances of seeing wildlife, or at least you'll be able to say you went for a wild ride. Please note that on weekends some of your party can opt for a guided day hike with another one of our guides--see last listing below. Step-on-guide services are also available for bus, van, or motor coach tours.

What to Expect

These full-day tours are geared for all ages...kids and kids-at-heart have tons of fun and learn what makes New Hampshire special. Check out the photos (below) we've taken along some of our routes, keeping in mind that each tour is unique. Your 6- to 8-hour tour can start as early as 6 a.m. and end as late as an hour after dusk. We provide interpretive guide/driver with vehicle, stops at points of interest, snowshoes and daypacks if needed, and one meal...as well as safety, fun, and learning throughout the day. You should dress in layers for the weather of the day, and bring along your favorite snacks and water. Don't forget your camera and binoculars if you have them. Policies and Procedures apply.

Price Per Day

We offer a tour to one party of 1-4 people at a time, which makes it a private tour. Prices are based on the general descriptions listed below and are subject to change due to customization of tours: $275 for the first participant, and $25 for each additional participant in your party. A horse-drawn sleigh or wagon ride may be added to most tours for an additional fee. We suggest bringing spending money for souvenirs, tax-free shopping, and incidentals.

Reservations and Choices

Please read the following descriptions of possible tours. We can customize your itinerary further, just tell us what you want. Starting locations are flexible--we can pick you up at your lodging if you wish. If you need a place to stay, we'll make some recommendations. There are many more seasonal happenings that can be exchanged or added into the itinerary, or you can just say, "Surprise us!" Each area of New Hampshire is unique. You may book us for additional days in different regions of New Hampshire. You can also specifically request a custom Bird Watching Tour, Moose Tour, or Outdoor Photography Tour as an S.U.V. Tour.

To register, please go to the Reservations page and follow the instructions for a Custom ESCAPE/Group Program. Let us know what you'd like to experience along the route.

Wildlife Watching / Photography Tour - Guided S.U.V. Tour

A special request for this tour has a custom location in New Hampshire for spotting moose, birds, wildlife, or special subjects for study, enjoyment, photographing, sketching, and painting.

Tell us what you are looking for and we'll do our best to help you find your subject during the best time of day and season. This S.U.V Tour, as all tours do, includes transportation and one meal.

Great North Woods Guided S.U.V. Tour

Starts in Gorham, NH...nature, culture, history, sightseeing, and some walking/hiking

bullet

You'll get a true sense of New Hampshire's vast wilderness as you ride through boreal forests along wild rivers where moose, loons, and bald eagles live. Find the headwaters of the Connecticut River and the Androscoggin River in the Northern Forest. Mix with local residents in town or at the lake and find out about hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and forestry. Eat a special lunch, with a tour, at either an historic grand hotel, or a local family’s homestead (your choice). Then enjoy either a two-hour nature walk/hike/snowshoe, or more riding with several stops for short walks to natural places of interest...moose wallows, waterfalls or frozen cascades, rivers, and remote beaver ponds.

Western White Mountains Guided S.U.V. Tour

Starts in Lincoln, NH...nature, culture, history, sightseeing, and some walking/hiking

bullet

You will find bigger mountains here in Franconia Notch with interesting glacial features and a recent history from forestry to skiing. Travel along the Connecticut River and see pristine farms, almost as it were 200 years ago. See covered bridges, and, depending on the season, a Yankee flea market, a local farm stand, a harvest of pumpkins, apples, or maple syrup. Have lunch at a great little family restaurant. Stop by an old fashioned general store and get some smoked sausage or cheese or even some fudge. Enjoy either a two-hour nature walk/hike/snowshoe to a scenic vista, or more riding with stops for short walks to natural places of interest...waterfalls/ice flows and cascades, remote ponds, and scenic vistas.

Eastern White Mountains Guided S.U.V. Tour

Starts in North Conway, NH...nature, culture, history, sightseeing, and some walking/hiking

bullet

Home of the highest peak in the Northeast, you will ride into the notches for the best views and have a chance to see moose. We'll stick to the back roads to avoid seasonal crowds and you'll find many treasures on this tour, including covered bridges, historic train stations, a weather center, and an old-fashioned country store with New England-made products . Have lunch and dessert at our favorite deli. Enjoy either a two-hour nature walk/hike/snowshoe to a scenic vista, or more riding with stops for short walks to natural places of interest... waterfalls/ice flows, scenic vistas, and remote ponds.

Lakes Region Guided S.U.V. Tour

Starts in Meredith, NH...nature, culture, history, sightseeing, and some walking/hiking

bullet

Vacationers have been coming to the Lakes Region to spend their summers here since the Industrial Revolution of America. On your tour around the Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lakes area you will still see evidence of years past...lakeside towns with church steeples and old train depots, as well as old farmhouses with mountain views. Stop by a local museum or historical society. In winter visit an ice fishing community, a maple sugar house, and an old country store. In summer visit a farm stand. Have lunch at our favorite restaurant in the area, and dessert at a yummy ice cream shop. Enjoy either a two-hour nature walk/hike/snowshoe to a scenic vista, or more riding with stops for short walks to natural places of interest...lake and mountain vistas, and see where “On Golden Pond” was filmed.

Dartmouth/Lake Sunapee Region Guided S.U.V. Tour

Starts in North Sutton, NH...nature, culture, history, sightseeing, and some walking/hiking

bullet

Travel through farm history as you pass lakes, streams, hills, and quaint country towns with village greens and covered bridges. Visit historical buildings, an apple orchard, a local farmers market, and a dam on the Connecticut River. Have lunch at our favorite original restaurant in the area. Enjoy either a two-hour nature walk/hike/snowshoe (to a scenic vista or along a river on a rail trail), or more riding with stops for short walks to natural places of interest...a waterfall, and a lakeside with mountain views.

Seacoast Region Guided S.U.V. Tour

Starts in Portsmouth, NH...nature, culture, history, sightseeing, and some walking/hiking

bullet

There is so much to see along New Hampshire's 18 miles of seacoast and in the areas nearby. Portsmouth is a port city with a history since before colonial times. The area has also been used for military, farming, and industrial purposes. Walk around town and see its historic buildings, gardens, restaurants, and little shops--tax-free, of course. Have lunch at a local pub or seafood restaurant, and dessert at a nearby pastry shop. Enjoy either a two-hour nature walk/hike/snowshoe to a scenic vista, or more riding with stops for short walks to natural places of interest...including seacoast walks to tide pools and beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, and/or along Great Bay, an estuary that offers great bird watching in winter as well as during spring and fall migrations.

Guided Day Hike...for those in your party who would rather spend the day in the wilderness (prices vary)

Nature, sightseeing, and hiking

bullet

If you want to spend the day hiking (snowshoeing if there’s snow), there are several choices where we could take you, depending on the overall fitness of participants and the day’s trail conditions. Fairly level terrain can be a workout on snowshoes after a snowstorm, and in any case can be beautiful…along a rocky river with ice flows, or to a remote winter pond. Steeper terrain may afford sweeping mountain views. Daypacks and lunch are provided on your interpretive tour, as well as lightweight snowshoes or traction devices for your boots. We'll give you a pack list...dress in layers all year (bring extra) and wear waterproof hiking boots (insulated in winter...cross country ski boots are great for snowshoeing, too). Prices vary depending on participation.
